    Lawndale running back Jordan Wilmore having breakout year

    Travis Clark had high expectations for running back Jordan Wilmore at the start of the season. “The sky’s the limit for this kid,” Lawndale’s coach said during the summer. After all of the work Wilmore put in during the summer, there was only one way for him to start his junior year. On the first offensive play of the season, Wilmore took the handoff from quarterback Jalen Hamler and raced 50 yards for the touchdown against St. Bonaventure.

    Name: Teshawn White School: Inglewood Sport: Football Year: Senior Noteworthy: White erupted for 333 rushing yards and 100 receiving and scored six touchdowns to lead the Sentinels to the 47-12 victory over Bishop Montgomery last week. White scored on runs of 19, 57, 13, 99 and 49 yards. His receiving touchdown went for 59 yards.     Football notebook: Torrance rock solid in win over Peninsula

    As far as early-season excitement goes, the Torrance football team experienced a lot of it Friday. “I haven’t seen a team that excited in three years,” Torrance coach Rock Hollis said. The Tartars led 14-0 at halftime against Peninsula and then 21-0 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was wild and then some. “Our hearts were in our throats,” Hollis said.
